State Secretary Gunnar Wieslander to take part in Competitiveness Council in Brussels

State Secretary Gunnar Wieslander will take part as Sweden's representative in the Competitiveness Council meeting in Brussels on Monday 1 March.

Commissioner Michel Barnier, the new commissioner responsible for the internal market, will be taking part for the first time.

At the ministers' lunch Professor Monti, who has been appointed by Commission President José M. Barroso to write a report concerning the strengthening of the internal market, will present his work. The report will be presented to the Commission in April.

"The internal market in the EU's greatest asset. A well-functioning internal market is fundamental to our prosperity. I will present what we see as the priorities for strengthening the internal market. Some of the priorities I particularly want to emphasise are increased knowledge of the internal market among both consumers and entrepreneurs, a strengthened 'digital internal market' and improved trade in services," says Mr Wieslander.
