Digital agenda

A digital agenda for Sweden must be a coherent strategy that aims to make better use of existing central government resources. The Government has previously taken initiatives to support digitalisation in several policy areas via an eGovernment action plan, a broadband strategy for Sweden and a national IT strategy for health care and social services. The digital agenda will supplement ongoing initiatives. It will coordinate IT measures in areas such as security, infrastructure, skills provision, trust, accessibility, functionality, standards, entrepreneurship and innovation.

Dialogue moves work forward

The work of more effectively digitalising Sweden takes place at different levels. It is crucial that all actors are involved. A large number of meetings and dialogues will be held during the spring of 2011. The various meetings, along with the Government's ongoing work, will lead to different areas being highlighted.

State Secretary group at the Government Offices

The Government has established a State Secretary group with the aim of strengthening IT policy governance and to coordinate the production of the digital agenda. The group is chaired by Marita Ljung, State Secretary to the Minister for Information Technology.

Sweden must continue to be the most successful digital economy

The digital agenda will be a cross-cutting, coherent strategy for the whole of Sweden that aims to make full use of the benefits of information technology. The digital agenda will set clear objectives for all relevant areas so that Sweden can continue to be the most successful digital economy.

The Government's ambition is for Sweden to be at the forefront in using IT to achieve growth, welfare, democratic and climate objectives. The role of the Government is to direct and create an appropriate regulatory framework, and in other ways give the market good prospects of offering solutions.

Digital Agenda for Europe

The European Commission's growth strategy for the EU (Europe 2020) includes the Digital Agenda for Europe flagship initiative. It significantly raises the level of ambition in terms of the expansion and use of IT in the EU.

Sweden has played, and should continue to play, a leading role in the EUs work in this area. The national policy will benefit from and contribute to the achievement of European priorities. The digital agenda for Sweden will correspond to the objectives in the Digital Agenda for Europe and contribute to achieving the objectives in the Europe 2020 strategy.
